Career Pathways to the Teaching Profession

Begin your pathway to the teaching profession today!
The Teach and Train Program is a course sequence designed to provide high school students a seamless pathway into the teaching profession through academic coursework and hands-on practicum experience.  This program is designed for students with an interest in the teaching profession.  See the Course Syllabus for more information.  

Pathways to the Teaching Profession Program- Course Sequence
This program is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in teaching.  

Course 1:  Teach and Train      1 Credit    Full-Year    Grades 10-12
*Juniors and Seniors may take concurrently with Practicum 1.
  • Teach and Train is the first class of the pathways to the teaching profession program designed for students who are considering the elementary or secondary teaching profession.  This course focuses on the general theory and practice of teaching and learning. In the first course students will learn the basic principles of educational psychology, the art of teaching, the planning and administration of educational activities, school safety and health issues, and the social foundations of education.  ​
Course 2:  Teach and Train Practicum 1 (Virtual- Can be taken any hour of the day.)
1 Credit    Full-Year Course    Grades 11-12    Prerequisite:  Teach and Train
*Juniors and Seniors may take concurrently with Teach and Train
  • Teach and Train Practicum 1 is the second class of the pathways to the teaching profession program. This course provides a seamless pathway to study the profession through experience as a classroom intern.  Students will be assigned to intern with district personnel where they will report during their scheduled class time for hands-on classroom experience. Students will need to provide their own transportation to and from their assigned practicum class.  All course work for this class will be done virtually, meaning that all assignments and lessons will be done online.  Students will complete reflection journals, prepare and present lessons, and work closely with their assigned cooperating teacher. 
DUAL CREDIT OPPORTUNITY:  Students who are enrolled in Teach and Train Practicum 1  have the opportunity to earn college credit through Missouri State University (MSU).  The course is ELE 302 (3- credit hour). Students who want to earn college credit will enroll with the university and pay a tuition fee.   All dual credit coursework is embedded into the class. Dual credit is an option, but is not required.  Students can still enroll in the course without taking it for dual credit.
Course 3:  Teach and Train Practicum 2 (Virtual- Can be taken any hour of the day.)
Grades 12    Full-Year    Prerequisite:  Teach and Train Practicum 1
  • Teach and Train Practicum 2 is the final course offered in the pathways to the teaching profession program. This course provides a seamless pathway to study the profession through experience as a classroom intern.  Students will be assigned to intern with district personnel where they will report during their scheduled class time for hands-on classroom experience. Note* Juniors and Seniors can enroll in Teach and Train and Practicum simultaneously!
